Who We Are is What We Do

So the topic of today's post will be about the many artists and authors that gather at our (now annual) Jetlag festival. This will mostly focus on the Russian -Musician aspect of the occasion, because well, that's what it's mostly comprised of at this point.

My personal favorites in the Russian Music Industry have to be Psoy Korolenko and Olga Chikina.
Psoy, better known as "Paha Cheripaha" or "Pasha the Turtle" to his friends and family, is the most loveable, cuddly, furry, and most of all strangely man-eating looking of all of the russian musicians out there.

He's a great friend, and he makes everyone around him smile. :) BUT, Pasha's main appeal to me?
He sings songs in a world of languages. My guess is that only 1/2 of his songs are actually in Russian.
The other 1/2? Well, they're separated into Yiddish, German, French, and the most Hilarious renditions of American music I have EVER heard.

Pasha's Russian Musical stylings is made up of satirical Soviet humor and modern-day Barack Obamian affairs, as well as just funny stories of people throughout their days.
Pasha's American music? Well... you'll just have to see for yourself.

If you see Psoy Korolenko on stage, one thing is guranteed to you for sure.

You will laugh.
Hard.

My other favorite musician is most definitely Olga Chikina.
This literally flaming hot woman sings the most heart touching music I have yet to hear.
While all of her music is Russian, just listening to the swaying flow of the chord transitions, and the somewhat narcaleptic quality of Chikina's voice, is enough to get you hooked forever.

I am not at all kidding when I say that the most love I've ever seen from Olga come from American teens.
Seriously.
My two friends, Kellie Savage and Mike Santoro, both fell in love with this woman's voice, music, personality... everything - within a few of her songs.
Stage presence?
Yeah. She has that.

There is no such thing as a language barrier at Jetlag.
It simply does not exist.

Upon spending an hour accompanying Olga Chikina on Sitar, Mike Santoro 18, 1st Annual Jetlag attendee, NJ says,
"I think... I think I'm in love."
"With who, Mike?"
"With, with... OLGA."
"Seriously? You guys don't even speak the same language... O.o?"
"Yeah, but that doesn't matter, because NOTHING will divide our love."

To put it simply - Olga Chikina drew Mike Santoro in faster and deeper into the Russian Culture more than any prior Russiany thing had before.

Mike merely wanted to meet this amazing song writer, instead, he got to play with her. Onstage. For more than five hundred people. How did he accomplish this? He merely went up and asked. A few kind poeople hanging around were more than willing to translate for him, and as it turns out? Olga was just about to ask him to play with her herself!

At Jetlag, you don't have to be famous to hang out with famous people.
People like Pasha and Olga, who are internationally known and loved, are kind of at Jetlag to relax and chill by the fire. The concerts? Are merely a way of giving back to the Jetlag community.

You'll be able to find these artists at a campfire in the wee hours of the morning, in the afternoon, and well into the night. Guaranteed.
And a Jam Fest at a campfire, will always surpass or be equal to that of the musical quality of a concert on stage.

Psoy Korolenko singing his signature song with Natsla.

Paha singing that same song at a campfire on the last day of Jetlag.

Olga on the last day of Jetlag, singing one of her thingies. :)

Here is Olga Chikina with said Mike Santoro performing a concert at my house. Look at the admiration in his eyes!!!

And one more, this time the entire impromptu band plays!
